EAF Electromagnetic Stirring: Operation and Results on the 3-Mtpy Consteel EAF at Arvedi

The new 3-million-metric-tons-per-year-capacity Consteel electric arc furnce (EAF), besides being the most productive EAF in the world, also has the largest electromagnetic stirring ever made. A strong liquid bath movement in such a large vessel is important to maintain temperature uniformity, enhance continuous scrap melting and improve productivity. This paper presents the challenges of this electromechanic installation and the operational results achieved.
